The order matters. Each step gives the next one something to work with, and doing them out of order is the most common reason a first week feels slower than it should.
1. Create your organisation
Sign up, then name the organisation and choose its timezone. The timezone is not cosmetic: every expiry is a calendar date, and "expires today" is worked out in the organisation's own zone. The person who creates the organisation is its owner.
2. Choose an industry pack
A pack seeds categories, obligation types, custom fields, renewal lead times and saved views for your sector. Setup shows exactly what a pack will add before you apply it. Nothing it adds is locked — rename, extend or delete any of it afterwards.
3. Import the spreadsheet
Upload a CSV, map its columns, and read the dry run before committing. The whole import is one batch, and one action undoes it. See "Importing assets from a CSV" for the details.
4. Attach obligations
Add the licences, permits, certificates, calibrations and contracts, each with its expiry. Where a contract renews automatically, set its cancellation notice; where a renewal takes weeks of paperwork, set its lead time. Those two dates are what make an alert early enough to act on.
5. Decide who is told
Add a notification channel — email, Slack, Teams or a webhook — and an alert rule that sends to it. Invite the people who own the work. Then check Settings the next morning: it shows when the scheduler last scanned your organisation.
